I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No.258 of the 15th. November, 1899, relative to the Draft Estimates for the year 1900.

2. In amplification of my telegram of the 19th. ultimo, answering the question contained in paragraph 5 of your despatch, I should state that the actual receipts of 1899 were about $5,554,271. ( being local revenue to the amount of $5,577,557, subsidiary coin estimated at $140,000, and $56,714 from the Crown Agents"). The actual expenditure, including the sum of $532,544 (being the Crown Agents' account up to the 30th. November) was $3,050,157.

3. It will, therefore, be seen that the actual revenue exceeds by $180,857 the Revised Estimate which was given at $5,575,414.

4. In my telegram of the 2nd. instant, I had the honour to state in reply to paragraph 6 of your despatch that no expenditure was incurred by the Colonial Government owing to the temporary occupation of Sham Chun.
